Supporting Early Communication Program
Parent interview to discuss concerns, review professional reports, assess the child's social communication skills, and goal setting.
Session 2 & 3:
Focuses on helping parents to understand of how their child communicates; what impacts their ability to communicate
and interact, and what are the next steps in improving their communication skills. Parents will learn how to provide opportunities for their child to practice communicating throughout their daily routines.
Session 4 & 5:
Focuses on helping parents to create a structured and predictable home environment to support their child's communication, interaction, understanding, and behavior.
Focuses on creating and implementing a functional communication system.
Session 7 & 8:
Helps parents to learn what they can do to support
their child's communication, interaction and play.
Focuses on helping parents to understand why negative behaviors occur, and what we can do to decrease them.
This 9-week program was designed to give parents the support and tools they need to help their little ones (0-3 yrs.) improve in their ability to communicate, interact and play at home. Based upon strategies from the Hanen More Than Words guidebook and evidence-based practices, the Supporting Early Communication Program teaches parents how to change what they do during their everyday routines and interactions to have a positive impact on their child's social communication development.
